Dear Dixon Unified Community,
I wish to take the opportunity provided by the Weekly Update to make an announcement that is both tied to the business of the District, and very personal. I will be retiring from my career in education at the end of the current school year in June 2024.
I am currently in my 36th year as an educator, having worked at Vacaville and Vanden High Schools before coming to Dixon in 1998 to be the Dixon High Principal. I held the principal position for 8 years, and am now in my 18th year working from the District Office, with this being my 13th as Superintendent. I was fortunate to work in my previous districts, but Dixon certainly became my home very shortly after beginning my service here.
When I began my career as a teacher and coach at Vaca High in 1988, I never imagined the variety of roles and responsibilities that I would accept. Even more so, there was no predicting meeting and getting to know the students, families, and staff that have been at the center of my time as an educator. While I am very grateful for what I have been allowed and able to do, my deepest gratitude is for the thousands of people who have been part of my life over these years.
I was fortunate to be educated by Nuns and Brothers in catholic schools who literally devoted themselves to their work – their students. As I come close now to wrapping up my career, I can honestly say that I have followed their inspiration and commitment by fully investing myself in the service of my students – my kids. What an honor and privilege it has been to be able to do so.
I am looking forward to the big changes coming my way that will allow me to create more time with family and friends, tend to my health more fully, and perhaps even start a hobby. And I’d like a puppy. And a grandchild. But in the opposite order. I am dreading not having regular contact with my kids at school, and not being a part of their growth and development in the ways that I have been. That I live in Dixon and cannot leave my home without seeing students, their families, or staff gives me comfort that I will be able to maintain my connections over time and find new ways to support people.
I have numerous individuals and groups to thank for their support and contributions over the years. Those moments will come later. For now, I will thank my family only, and assure them that I’m coming home!
The Governing Board will begin its work on establishing a selection process for the new Superintendent. The first step will be at its regular meeting next Thursday at 6:00 in the City Council Chambers. Additional information on ways for you to participate will be publicized as they are established.
I will be working on my job with the same effort, care, and responsibility until June that I have always had, and look forward to all of it. Some of it will be done with tears in my eyes and a handkerchief in my hand, only because of how much I love what I do and especially those for whom I do it.

Deseo aprovechar la oportunidad que me brinda la Actualización Semanal para hacer un anuncio que está vinculado a los asuntos del Distrito y que es muy personal. Me retiraré de mi carrera en educación al final del año escolar actual en junio de 2024.
Actualmente estoy en mi 36º año como educador, habiendo trabajado en las escuelas secundarias de Vacaville y Vanden antes de llegar a Dixon en 1998 para ser el director de la secundaria Dixon. Ocupé el puesto de director durante 8 años y ahora estoy en mi decimoctavo año trabajando en la Oficina del Distrito, siendo este mi 13º como Superintendente. Tuve la suerte de trabajar en mis distritos anteriores, pero Dixon ciertamente se convirtió en mi hogar poco después de comenzar mi servicio aquí.
Cuando comencé mi carrera como maestra y entrenadora en Vaca High en 1988, nunca imaginé la variedad de roles y responsabilidades que aceptaría. Más aún, no fue posible predecir el conocimiento de los estudiantes, las familias y el personal que han sido el centro de mi tiempo como educador. Si bien estoy muy agradecido por lo que se me ha permitido y he podido hacer, mi más profundo agradecimiento es por las miles de personas que han sido parte de mi vida a lo largo de estos años.
Tuve la suerte de ser educado por monjas y hermanos en escuelas católicas que literalmente se dedicaron a su trabajo – sus estudiantes. Ahora que me acerco a concluir mi carrera, puedo decir honestamente que he seguido su inspiración y compromiso al dedicarme plenamente al servicio de mis estudiantes: mis hijos. Qué honor y privilegio ha sido poder hacerlo.
Espero con ansias los grandes cambios que se avecinan y que me permitirán dedicar más tiempo a mi familia y amigos, cuidar mi salud más plenamente y tal vez incluso comenzar un pasatiempo. Y me gustaría un cachorro. Y un nieto. Pero en orden inverso. Temo no tener contacto regular con mis estudiantes en la escuela y no ser parte de su crecimiento y desarrollo como lo he sido yo. El hecho de que vivo en Dixon y no puedo salir de mi casa sin ver a los estudiantes, sus familias o al personal me da la tranquilidad de que podré mantener mis conexiones y encontrar nuevas formas de apoyar a las personas.
Tengo numerosas personas y grupos a quienes agradecer por su apoyo y contribuciones a lo largo de los años. Esos momentos vendrán después. ¡Por ahora, solo agradeceré a mi familia y les aseguraré que volveré a casa!
La Mesa Directiva Escolar comenzará su trabajo para establecer un proceso de selección para el nuevo Superintendente. El primer paso será en su reunión ordinaria el próximo jueves a las 6:00 horas en el Salón de Actos del Ayuntamiento. Se publicará información adicional sobre las formas en que puede participar a medida que se establezcan.
Estaré trabajando en mi trabajo hasta junio con el mismo esfuerzo, esmero y responsabilidad que siempre he tenido, y lo espero con ansias. Algunas cosas las haré con lágrimas en los ojos y un pañuelo en la mano, sólo por lo mucho que amo lo que hago y especialmente a aquellos para quienes lo hago.
