We are quickly approaching February 16th, which is the day that we begin the relocation of Anderson students and staff to the Tremont and Gretchen Higgins campuses due to our electrical outage. This message contains critical information for you regarding this transition, especially for the students and families from Anderson.
ANDERSON MINIMUM DAY ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH
Anderson’s teachers and staff will have a minimum day on Thursday, February 15th to allow them more time for organizing and packing for their move. The usual minimum day schedule will be followed for all students. School ends at 12:30 for primary grades (TK-3rd), and 12:35 for 4th and 5th Grades.
CALENDAR CHANGE FOR ALL SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT
- Tuesday, February 20th is now a non-school day, also called a local holiday, for all students in the District to allow the staff that have to move an additional day to do so. Again, there will be NO school for students on February 20th.
- The current four-day weekend is now extended to a five-day weekend; February 16th through February 20th.
- Thursday, May 9th is now a regular scheduled day for all students in the District. It was scheduled to be a minimum day.
- Friday, May 10th is now a minimum day for all students in the District. It was scheduled to be a non-student day or local holiday.
- Reminders of these changes will be made prior to each date.
REVISED BELL SCHEDULES
We have new, revised bell schedules in order to stagger our starting end times. These changes are being made to assist in drop off and pick up of students, as we have added large numbers of students to each school, and some families will have children at two campuses. Those schedules are included with this message. In short, Gretchen Higgins will be starting twenty minutes earlier than Tremont. Please review the schedules carefully and contact your school office if you have any questions.

TRANSPORTATION TO TREMONT AND GRETCHEN HIGGINS
The District has been trying to secure bus or van transportation to assist students from Anderson to Tremont and Gretchen Higgins since the possibility of this move arose. At this point in time, we have not been able to secure the services of a company that can provide transportation for us. Buses and/or drivers are not available from any company serving our region, and passenger vans require that any child who must use a car or booster seat while riding in a vehicle use one while riding in the van. We are attempting to address the logistics of the car and booster seat challenge. We are continuing to work on this every day, as we know that about 33% of our students have reported needing transportation in a recent survey by families. We will keep you informed as developments occur, and the Governing Board will be addressing the issue at its meeting next Thursday, February 15th.
ADMINISTRATIVE ROLES
Rayito Farris is the current principal at Anderson, Treva Foster is at Tremont, and Gina Llamas-Cruz is at Gretchen Higgins. As we consolidate from three elementary schools down to two, we had the opportunity to consider what roles each of these principals will have moving forward. John Knight Middle School has been without an Assistant Principal for the entire school year, and while District Office administrators provided regular support, the daily absence of the second administrator for the school has brought about a variety of challenges. To help correct this situation, Ms. Farris is going to serve as the JKMS Assistant Principal for the remainder of the year. I appreciate her willingness to take on this important role, and know that the students, families, and staff will benefit from her daily presence on campus.
Ms. Foster will be the principal overseeing all students and staff at Tremont, and Ms. Llamas-Cruz will do the same at Gretchen Higgins. They will have more work to do with the additional students and staff, so will be provided with additional support from District administrators. All three of these administrators are committed to doing the best for our students, and I am grateful to have them leading our schools.
