Dear Dixon Unified School District Families,
As you may be aware, Dixon Unified and the nation continue to experience staffing shortages, which have been amplified by the Omicron variant. With that said, our schools will continue to remain open and on regular schedules, with all safety protocols and practices continuing to be in place during this COVID surge.
Given the increase in cases, we anticipate an increase in absences from students and staff. This will impact our ability to run school operations in a typical manner. In preparation for these absences, the District’s Administrative Team has met and prepared a short term instructional plan. This plan will allow us flexibility to best meet the needs of our students and staff. Additionally, this plan will provide equitable opportunities for all.
This plan is intended to streamline the process for our students and staff while providing access to students that are unable to attend school in person due to COVID. The instructional plan is as follows:
- Students in TK-1 will utilize ClassDojo to complete and submit assignments
- Students in 2nd-12th grades will use Google Classroom to complete and submit assignments
Whether a student is in class or at home due to exposure or illness, all class and homework will be available through either ClassDojo or Google Classroom. With this model, no student will be waiting to get make-up work, and teachers will not be struggling to provide different lessons for those at school and those at home due to COVID. Implementation of this short term instructional plan will begin on Monday, January 10th and be fully operational as quickly as possible.
In our previous District communication, we shared information regarding at home testing and it being one of the strategies being emphasized as a way to help prevent the spread of this virus. We will be attempting to obtain more rapid, at-home tests to distribute. In the meantime, the District will continue to offer testing at Dixon High School on Mondays and Thursdays from 2-3:30 pm in room H107.
As we return to school, if your student is ill, we ask that you keep them at home. If your student shows COVID symptoms and a test is taken with a positive result, follow the quarantine protocols that have been established by the California Department of Public Health and are listed below:
Should your student test positive:
- The initial quarantine period is 5 days.
- They isolate at home for 5 days from the start of their symptoms, if no symptoms, then isolate 5 days from the day they gave their test sample.
- After 5 days they MAY end their isolation if all symptoms are improving (specifically no fever in the last 24 hours without medication) AND
- Those who do not have a negative test result from day 5 or later, or show no improvement in their symptoms, must remain isolated at home for 10 days.
**Please note that the results of these at-home tests will not be collected by the District. However, it is critical for families to report any student who must quarantine to their school’s office. We need to ensure that students are provided access to their class and homework and that we report attendance information accurately.**

Como ya sabrá, Dixon Unified y la nación continúan experimentando escasez de personal, que se ha visto agravada por la variante Omicron. Dicho esto, nuestras escuelas continuarán abiertas y en horarios regulares, con todos los protocolos y prácticas de seguridad vigentes durante este aumento de COVID.
Dado el aumento de casos, anticipamos un aumento en las ausencias de los estudiantes y el personal. Esto afectará nuestra capacidad para ejecutar las operaciones escolares de una manera típica. En preparación para estas ausencias, el Equipo Administrativo del Distrito se reunió y preparó un plan de instrucción a corto plazo. Este plan nos permitirá flexibilidad para satisfacer mejor las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes y personal. Además, este plan brindará oportunidades equitativas para todos.
Este plan tiene como objetivo agilizar el proceso para nuestros estudiantes y personal al mismo tiempo que brinda acceso a los estudiantes que no pueden asistir a la escuela en persona debido a COVID. El plan de instrucción es el siguiente:
- Los estudiantes de TK-1 utilizarán ClassDojo para completar y enviar tareas.
- Los estudiantes de 2° a 12° grado utilizarán Google Classroom para completar y enviar tareas.
Ya sea que un estudiante esté en clase o en casa debido a una exposición o enfermedad, toda la clase y las tareas estarán disponibles a través de ClassDojo o Google Classroom. Con este modelo, ningún estudiante esperará para recuperar el trabajo y los maestros no tendrán problemas para brindar lecciones diferentes para los que están en la escuela y los que están en casa debido a COVID. La implementación de este plan de instrucción a corto plazo comenzará el lunes 10 de enero y estará en pleno funcionamiento lo antes posible.
En nuestra comunicación anterior del Distrito, compartimos información sobre las pruebas en el hogar y es una de las estrategias que se enfatiza como una forma de ayudar a prevenir la propagación de este virus. Intentaremos obtener pruebas caseras más rápidas para distribuir. Mientras tanto, el distrito continuará ofreciendo exámenes en Dixon High School los lunes y jueves de 2-3:30 pm en el salón H107.
Al regresar a la escuela, si su estudiante está enfermo, le pedimos que lo deje en casa. Si su estudiante muestra síntomas de COVID y se toma una prueba con hi un resultado positivo, siga los protocolos de cuarentena que han sido establecidos por el Departamento de Salud Pública de California y que se enumeran a continuación:
Si su estudiante da positivo en la prueba:
- El período de cuarentena inicial es de 5 días.
- Se aíslan en casa durante 5 días desde el inicio de sus síntomas, si no hay síntomas, luego se aíslan 5 días desde el día en que dieron su muestra de prueba.
- Después de 5 días PUEDEN terminar su aislamiento si todos los síntomas mejoran (específicamente sin fiebre en las últimas 24 horas sin medicación) Y
- Aquellos que no tengan un resultado negativo de la prueba desde el día 5 o más tarde, o que no muestren mejoría en sus síntomas, deben permanecer aislados en casa durante 10 días.
** Tenga en cuenta que el Distrito no recopilará los resultados de estas pruebas en el hogar. Sin embargo, es fundamental que las familias denuncien a cualquier estudiante que deba ponerse en cuarentena a la oficina de su escuela. Necesitamos asegurarnos de que los estudiantes tengan acceso a su clase y tarea y que reportamos la información de asistencia con precisión. **
