Testing Opportunities

Testing remains available every Monday and Thursday at Dixon High School between the hours of 2:00 and 3:30. You must register through the link available here to be able to test: https://www.dixonusd.org/covid-19

School Year Progress

Today is our 101st day of school – just above 56% of the school year. So much of what is happening on our campuses looks, sounds, and feels like how things were prior to the pandemic. This is reassuring as we continue to both address the impact of school closure and distance learning, as well as move forward in our programs. However, we are still observing that a loss of learning is evident for many students, and that social interactions and students’ mental health have also been negatively impacted. We are working hard to provide services for students with these challenges, but due to a lack of applicants, have not been able to hire people for many of the positions we added to support students. If you have a student who is struggling, we request you reach out to their teacher or administrator if you haven’t, or respond to the contact our staff has attempted with you, and begin the process of getting assistance. We expect that the amount of time that it will take for many students to recover from the impact of the pandemic is going to last into future school years. We cannot afford to waste a single day to help our students, both academically and socially.

Kindergarten Registration and Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Program

We are currently asking families that will have a student in either Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten to pick up a registration packet at their school site and complete it as soon as possible. We want to be able to make sure that we are able to hire the teachers to serve our students, and finding qualified candidates is very difficult right now. The sooner we know how many students that we have, the sooner we can hire teachers.

In addition to enrolling in the regular Kindergarten program, families can choose to register for a new bilingual immersion program that will be housed at Gretchen Higgins next year. Students from any attendance area may apply for the program which will build literacy for all students in both Spanish and English. There is a flyer in the registration packet that provides more information on the program and how to pursue enrolling in it.

Progreso del Año Escolar

Si tiene un estudiante que tiene dificultades, le pedimos que se comunique con su maestro o administrador si no lo ha hecho, o responda al contacto que nuestro personal ha intentado con usted y comience el proceso de obtener ayuda. Esperamos que la cantidad de tiempo que les llevará a muchos estudiantes recuperarse del impacto de la pandemia continúe en los próximos años escolares. No podemos perder un solo día para ayudar a nuestros estudiantes, tanto académica como socialmente.

Inscripción para el Kínder y el Programa de Inmersión Bilingüe Bidireccional

Actualmente estamos pidiendo a las familias que tendrán un estudiante en el kinder o en el kinder transicional que recojan un paquete de inscripción en su escuela y lo completen lo antes posible. Queremos poder asegurarnos de poder contratar a los maestros para atender a nuestros estudiantes, y encontrar candidatos calificados es muy difícil en este momento. Cuanto antes sepamos cuántos estudiantes tenemos, antes podremos contratar maestros.

Además de inscribirse en el programa regular de kínder, las familias pueden optar por inscribirse en un nuevo programa de inmersión bilingüe que se llevará a cabo en Gretchen Higgins el próximo año. Los estudiantes de cualquier área de asistencia pueden solicitar el programa que desarrollará la alfabetización de todos los estudiantes tanto en español como en inglés. Hay un volante en el paquete de registro que brinda más información sobre el programa y cómo seguir inscribiéndose en él.
