Good afternoon, JKMS Community,
As we begin the new semester, we remind our Mavericks that this is an opportunity for them to start over fresh. All students start the new semester with an A in every class! It is up to them to maintain it. If you haven’t already done so, please take some time to talk with your student about the habits that will support academic success. At JKMS we want our students to be productive. One way that students can be productive is to be present and actively participate in their learning. At JKMS, attendance matters!

Report cards should be arriving soon. Please check the mail and review your child’s report card with them. Use that time and conversation as an opportunity to set goals for the second half of the year!
Students often ask me, “Mrs. O’Connor, I am so far behind, how will I ever catch up? Will I be able to be promoted to the next grade?” My response is always the same, “I am looking for growth!” Parents, I encourage you to do the same. As you engage in the conversation of academic achievement with your child, please keep the following in mind:
- Students were out of the traditional school setting for almost two years.
- Even though we are back to a full instructional model, we are still heavily impacted by learning loss from the pandemic.
- It will take time to catch up, but with hard work and dedication we will get there.

Tutoring Opportunities
- Starting January 17th, we will offer Homework Help in the JKMS Library on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Time: 3:00 – 4:30 pm
Location: School Library
- Dixon Unified has partnered with the Solano Public Library system to offer remote tutoring to students. Students are able to access free on-demand tutoring services provided by the Princeton Review/tutor.com. To have students access these services, have them go to www.solanolibrary.com click “My Account” and input their login information as follows: Library ID = DIX5digitlunch# (ex. DIX12345). Password = last name (ex. Smith).
School Site Council (SSC)
We are still looking for 6th and 7th grade parents to join the School Site Council.
Each year we elect parent members to our school site council. The JKMS School Site Council (SSC) is an elected body with the important role of overseeing the School Plan for Student Achievement, ensuring it supports the goals of the school and district and assessing periodically the effectiveness of the program. We are looking for two parents to serve on the School Site Council. SSC meets 5 times a year via Zoom on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm. If interested, please let us know by completing the Google Form. Course Expo @ DHS
Attention 8th grade parents, Dixon High School is hosting this year’s Course Expo from 6:00 – 7:30 pm in the large gym on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023. We want all of our 8th graders to attend! We are super excited about the opportunity to showcase all of Dixon Highs’ programs so that students and families can make informed decisions in their class selection and have an opportunity to meet DHS’s awesome teachers. It is important for all 8th graders to attend so that they can see what classes they have the opportunity to sign up for, for their freshman year at Dixon High School.
Make sure to calendar Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Dixon High School to help your child plan their schedule for next year!

Al comenzar el nuevo semestre, les recordamos a nuestros Mavericks que esta es una oportunidad para que comiencen de nuevo. Todos los estudiantes comienzan el nuevo semestre con una A en cada clase, depende de ellos mantenerla. Si aún no lo ha hecho, tómese un tiempo para hablar con su estudiante sobre los hábitos que respaldarán el éxito académico. En JKMS queremos que nuestros estudiantes sean productivos. Lo más importante que los estudiantes pueden hacer para ser productivos es estar presentes y participar activamente en el aprendizaje. JKMS, ¡La asistencia importa!

Las boletas de calificaciones deberían llegar pronto. ¡Por favor revise el correo, revise la boleta de calificaciones de su hijo con ellos y utilícelo como una oportunidad para establecer metas para la segunda mitad del año!
Los estudiantes a menudo me preguntan, “Sra. O’Connor, estoy tan atrasado, ¿cómo me pondré al día y podré pasar al siguiente grado? Mi respuesta es siempre la misma, ¡busco crecimiento! Padres, los animo a hacer lo mismo. Mientras participa en la conversación sobre el rendimiento académico con su hijo, tenga en cuenta lo siguiente.
- Los estudiantes estuvieron fuera del entorno escolar tradicional durante casi dos años.
- A pesar de que volvimos a un modelo de instrucción completo, todavía nos vemos muy afectados por la pérdida de aprendizaje de la pandemia.
- Tomará tiempo ponerse al día, pero con trabajo duro y dedicación lo lograremos.

- Unificado de Dixon se ha asociado con el sistema de bibliotecas públicas de Solano para ofrecer tutoría remota a los estudiantes. Consejo del sitio escolar

Exposición de cursos @ DHS
Padres de 8.° grado, Dixon High School organizará la Course Expo de este año de 6:00 a 7:30 p. m. en el gimnasio grande el miércoles 25 de enero de 2023. ¡Queremos que todos nuestros estudiantes de 8.° grado asistan! Estamos muy entusiasmados con la oportunidad de mostrar todos los programas de Dixon Highs para que los estudiantes y las familias puedan tomar decisiones informadas en la selección de su clase y tener la oportunidad de conocer a los increíbles maestros de DHS.
