JKMS will begin to schedule individual meetings with families if it appears attendance at school is becoming an issue.

Parent Teacher Organization
Thank you to the parents and staff that attended the first PTO meeting last week.  The PTO is looking forward to the year and assisting JKMS meet the needs of all students.  PTO does have some immediate needs – help with staffing the door at athletic events and staffing the snack bar.  If you can help, please contact them at johnknightpto@gmail.com and https://www.facebook.com/groups/jkmspto .
English Learner Advisory Committeec (ELAC)

ELAC Meeting, Wednesday September 27, 9:00am – 10:00 am.  Room A115.  The purpose of the ELAC is to provide parents of English Learners opportunities to: Learn more about the programs offered to their children. Participate in the school’s needs assessment of students, parents, and teachers.  Please join us!

Athletics

Volleyball Games are Away this week, Games start at 4:00pm:

Tuesday, 26th at Esparto and Thursday, 28th at Holmes.

Cross Country Meet starts at 4:00pm:

Wednesday, September 27th. Meet is at Lee.

Winter Sports Meeting for Basketball (7th and 8th Grade, Boys and Girls), Wrestling. Meeting at 5:30 in the Library.

Activities

Wednesday is College Wear Wednesday and Friday is Burgundy and Grey Friday. Make sure you are wearing your spirit gear on spirit days to earn points for your grade. The grade wide spirit day points competition winning prize will be announced in the next few weeks.

This Friday’s Spirit Day is Hispanic flag spirit day to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.On Friday make sure to come to school wearing the colors of any hispanic flag or in cultural clothing. At lunch, Leadership will be hosting a mini Fiesta de Bailet. Students can sing and dance to Lantinx music to celebrate our vibrant campus community and Hispanic Heritage Month!

JKMS’s Lunchtime Intramural Dodgeball is starting up this week with the first games being held this Thursday during lunch. Game slips with team names, game time, day of the match and location will be delivered starting this Wednesday during 4th period for 8th graders and 5th period for 6th and 7th graders. If you do not get a game slip for a Dodgeball game, on Wednesday and you signed up to play in the league it just means that your first game is not Thursday but you will get a game slip for your first match in the near future.

Staffing

The JKMS Community has been understanding and kind as we have worked on solving our staff issues.  In the last week, we have welcomed two teachers, Ms. Schene (Math) and Ms. Palchik (English Language Arts) to our staff.  Please take the time to welcome these two teachers if you have an opportunity.
