The school library exists to provide a range of learning opportunities for both large and small groups as well as individuals with a focus on intellectual content, information literacy, and the learner. In addition to classroom visits with collaborating teachers, the school library also serves as a place for students to do independent work and research materials; to host special events such as book fairs and reading clubs; and for tutoring and testing. School libraries function as a central location for all of the information available, and a school librarian functions as the literary map to the resources and materials found in the library. The elementary libraries currently have over 11,000 titles. Each class visits the library once every two weeks for 30 minutes. Kindergarten students visit the library for 30 minutes. First through fifth grade students visit for 45 minutes. Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade check out (1) book each week, and leave their books at school. Second-Fifth grade students are allowed to check out (2) books. Books must be returned each week on library day in order to check out new books. If a student forgets their book, they are able to put a book on hold in the library and have until Friday to bring their forgotten book to exchange. Students are responsible for paying for any lost or damaged books.
