Our Current School Year
Today marks Day 144 of the 2021-22 School year, leaving us with 36 until we wrap up for the year on June 2nd. Another way of quantifying this is to say that we have completed 80% of the year and have 20% remaining. People have a variety of reactions to this information; hooray it’s getting close to the end, I can’t believe it has gone so slowly or quickly, is that enough time to get my grades up or keep them up, what will I do this summer, and many more. For those of us responsible for the operations of the District and, most importantly, the learning and development of our students, our first thoughts are that we need more time to accomplish everything that should be done. Thirty-six days is not enough time to do everything that we need to do!
The period after Spring Break always moves very quickly and is filled with end of the year activities and celebrations that are so important to so many people, and that we have desperately missed for the last two years as we have dealt with the impact of COVID. We look forward to each one of these events and encourage your full participation in all of them that you wish to. We have good cause to celebrate as we come to what feels like – and hopefully is – the closing of the book on the pandemic and its disruption and damage to our schools, students, families, and staff.
But, we have a favor to ask. An important one. Over these next 36 days, we will have the first full-fledged state testing in all of the required grade levels since 2019. We have Advanced Placement exams for dozens of Dixon High students and the push for seniors at both high schools to earn the required credits for graduation. We have learning standards that will be introduced for students in all grade levels for the first time that they are expected to master and that are essential whether they are back with us again next year, or graduating and starting the next stage of their lives. This remaining 20% of the school year is just as important as the previous 80%, and can be argued that in light of all of the challenges posed by COVID, is the most important end of a school year that we have ever had.
So, the favor that we ask is that you do everything in your power to make these remaining days of this school year focused on the learning, growth, and development of our students to the highest degree possible. Every student needs the full benefits of this closing period of time, and they won’t receive them unless we all remain committed to making sure that they do. Let’s finish strong, and after two years of not being able to do so, celebrate our students and their accomplishments in all of our usual ways, and new ones as well.
Testing
As mentioned above, it is testing season and schools are in the early stages of organizing and conducting tests now. John Knight Middle School, Dixon High, and Maine Prairie High will complete their testing over the next week or two. The elementary schools will test in mid-May. We cannot overstate how important these assessments are as we need to see how each individual student is performing, as well as have important data for each class, school, and District as a whole. Please follow the directions that each site distributes in an effort to maximize student performance.

COVID Cases
We had two cases reported for students this week and none for staff members. We continue to regularly monitor information from Solano County Public Health and do not anticipate any changes to current guidance or protocols in the near future.
Nuestro Año Escolar Actual
Hoy marca el día 144 del año escolar 2021-22, lo que nos deja 36 días hasta que terminemos el año escolar el 2 de junio. Otra forma de cuantificar esto es decir que hemos completado el 80% del año y nos queda un 20%. Las personas tienen una variedad de reacciones a esta información; bravo, se está acercando al final, no puedo creer que haya ido tan lento o tan rápido, es tiempo suficiente para mejorar mis calificaciones o mantenerlas, qué haré este verano y mucho más. Para aquellos de nosotros responsables de las operaciones del Distrito y lo que es más importante, el aprendizaje y desarrollo de nuestros estudiantes, lo primero que pensamos es que necesitamos más tiempo para lograr todo lo que se debe hacer. ¡Treinta y seis días no es tiempo suficiente para hacer todo lo que tenemos que hacer!
El período después a las vacaciones de primavera siempre avanza muy rápido y está lleno de actividades y celebraciones de fin de año que son tan importantes para tantas personas y que hemos extrañado desesperadamente durante los últimos dos años mientras lidiamos con el impacto de COVID. Estamos muy emocionados de asistir a cada uno de estos eventos y le animamos a participar plenamente en todos los que desee. Tenemos buenos motivos para celebrar al llegar a lo que se siente, y con suerte lo es, el cierre del libro sobre la pandemia y su interrupción y daño a nuestras escuelas, estudiantes, familias y personal.
Pero, tenemos un favor que pedir. Uno importante. Durante estos próximos 36 días, tendremos las primeras pruebas estatales completas en todos los niveles de grado requeridos desde 2019. Tenemos exámenes de Colocación Avanzada para docenas de estudiantes de Dixon High y el impulso para que los estudiantes de último año en ambas escuelas obtengan los requisitos créditos para la graduación. Tenemos estándares de aprendizaje que se presentarán a los estudiantes en todos los grados por primera vez que se espera que dominen y que son esenciales ya sea que regresen con nosotros el próximo año o que se gradúen y comiencen la siguiente etapa de sus vidas. Este 20 % restante del año escolar es tan importante como el 80 % anterior y se puede argumentar que, a la luz de todos los desafíos que plantea el COVID, es el final de año escolar más importante que jamás hayamos tenido.
Entonces, el favor que le pedimos es que haga todo lo que esté a su alcance para que estos días restantes de este año escolar se centren en el aprendizaje, crecimiento y desarrollo de nuestros estudiantes en el mayor grado posible. Todos los estudiantes necesitan todos los beneficios de este período de cierre y no los recibirán a menos que todos sigamos comprometidos a asegurarnos de que así sea. Terminemos con fuerza, y después de dos años de no poder hacerlo, celebremos a nuestros estudiantes y sus logros en todas nuestras formas habituales, y también en las nuevas.
Examenes
Como se mencionó anteriormente, es la temporada de exámenes y las escuelas se encuentran en las primeras etapas de organización y realización de exámenes ahora. John Knight Middle School, Dixon High y Maine Prairie High completarán sus pruebas durante la próxima semana o dos. Las escuelas primarias realizarán pruebas a mediados de mayo. No podemos exagerar la importancia de estas evaluaciones, ya que necesitamos ver cómo se está desempeñando cada estudiante individual, así como también tener datos importantes para cada clase, escuela y Distrito en su conjunto. Casos de COVID-19
Tuvimos dos casos reportados para estudiantes esta semana y ninguno para miembros del personal. Continuamos monitoreando regularmente la información de Salud Pública del Condado de Solano y no anticipamos ningún cambio en la orientación o los protocolos actuales en el futuro cercano.
