TEACHER NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

Dixon Unified School District Makes a Post Mediation Offer to DTA which Includes a 10% Salary Increase, a $2,000 One-Time Bonus, Increases to Masters and BCLAD Stipends by 68% to $2,000, and Increases Special Education Stipend to 10% of a Teacher’s Base Salary

The Dixon Unified School District and DTA held their third mediation meeting with the State Mediator on November 13, 2024 and exchanged proposals but did not reach agreement. As such, the State Mediator released Dixon Unified School District and DTA to Fact Finding.  Notwithstanding, and in the interest of trying to reach agreement as soon as possible, the District presented DTA with a salary proposal Post Mediation on November 22, 2024.

The District’s Post Mediation Proposal includes the following:

1. 2023-24 6% salary increase 

2. 2023-24 $2,000 one-time bonus payment

3. 2024-25 4% salary increase

4. Starting July 1, 2025, Stipend Increases for Masters Degrees from $1,191.38 to $2,000 (68% increase)

5. Starting July 1, 2025, Stipend Increases for teachers working in an assignment that requires a BCLAD from $1,191.38 to $2,000 (68% increase)

6. Starting July 1, 2025, Stipend Increases for teachers working in an assignment that requires a Special Education Credential from $1,191.38 to 10% of a Teacher’s Base Salary

7. Starting July 1, 2025, Stipend Addition of National Board Certification at $2,000

8. Allowing for stacking of the stipends listed above starting July 1, 2025.

The state Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2023-24 was 8.22% (locally funded COLA was 6.32%), and for 2024-25 is 1.07% (locally funded COLA was -.48%).

This salary proposal continues to be the highest current two-year offer in the county and affirms the Board of Trustees’ desire to make teacher salaries more competitive with similarly sized school districts.A graph of blue and red bars Description automatically generated

If accepted and ratified by DTA, retroactive checks would be issued to certificated employees within 60 work days after the Board of Trustees’ approval.  Board approval could occur at the Board’s next meeting on December 19, 2024.

What would this look like for members of DTA? 

Three Scenarios were provided in the November 1st Update.  In this update, we will just focus on the first scenario.  Please see the November 1st Update for additional scenarios.  The new language related to stipends in this scenario will apply in the exact same manner as in the other scenarios.

2023/24

  • 6% for 2023/24: Staff member was here for school year 2023/24 and is eligible to receive a retro payment for the 6% in 2023/24.

  • $2,000 one time bonus for 2023/24: Staff member was here for school year 2023/24 and would be eligible for the one time bonus of $2,000 for school year 2023/24.

2024/25

  • 4% for 2024/2025 (10% total increase from 2022/2023):  Staff members would receive retro payment on the February 28, 2025 paycheck for retro pay from July 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024 for increased salary.  The increased salary would also be reflected on the February 28, 2025 paycheck.

  • Teacher who holds one  Masters, National Board Certification, Doctorate, or BCLAD (if working in a BCLAD required assignment) would receive $2,000.

  • Teacher who holds two Masters, National Board Certification, Doctorate, or BCLAD (if working in a BCLAD required assignment) would receive $4,000.

  • Teacher who holds three Masters, National Board Certification, Doctorate, or BCLAD (if working in a BCLAD required assignment) would receive $6,000.

  • Teacher who holds four Masters, National Board Certification, Doctorate, or BCLAD (if working in a BCLAD required assignment) would receive $8,000.

  • Teacher who teaches Special Education and has a Special Education Credential would receive 10% of Base Salary which would be an additional $10,190.50.
