Students, Parents, and JKMS Community, we did it!
\nWe made it through the first week of school!<\/p>\n
During the first few days, we assisted students by helping them navigate their way around campus. We talked with our students and helped relieve their stress and anxiety. The focus was on teaching our schoolwide expectations of being safe respectful and productive mavericks. We issued school supplies to all students and focused on making our students feel safe and secure on our campus.<\/p>\n
Parents, JKMS is an AVID school! We currently have one section of AVID at each grade level, and most of our staff are highly trained in AVID strategies, so every student receives AVID organizational skills even if they do not have the AVID elective class. At JKMS we have tied our PBIS school-wide expectation of productivity to AVID\u2019s expectation of organization. Every student received a planner this week and reviewed organizational skills in their social studies classes. Please help us express the importance of being organized and productive. When you ask your student what they learned or did in school, ask them to show you their planner. We use this to record the learning that will happen each day in class, homework, office visits, bathroom breaks etc.<\/p>\n

\nParents, please ensure your student brings a charged Chromebook to school daily. Next week we will begin checking to ensure that every student has brought their district-issued Chromebook to school.<\/p>\n
\nParents the dress code can be found on page 13 of your student’s planner. Please review the dress code with your child and make sure that they are adhering to the dress code policy. Tops must extend to the waist. We will have discipline assemblies next week to review these expectations, from there we will begin dress coding students who violate the policy.<\/p>\n
\nParents, please remember that JKMS is a closed campus. In order to ensure the safety and security of your students, we ask that you call prior to coming on campus. This will allow us to prepare for your visit.<\/p>\n
\nThough we want all of our mavericks to have an amazing day every day, we know that navigating middle school can be challenging. If your student is experiencing issues related to discipline ie social media issues, harassment, etc., or if you hear rumors of unrest that might occur on campus, before or after school please reach out to our vice principal Mrs. Stueve, if you are unable to reach Mrs. Stueve please contact me directly. If your student is struggling with anxiety, their social and emotional well-being, and or you have concerns related to their academic progress, teachers, etc. please reach out to me.
