RAMpage v3.12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dear Dixon High School Families,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This week we have a whole lot to talk about! \u00a0 Please remember, our mission is to prepare all students for college and career and we focus, community-wide, on our three common expectations:<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Engage <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; participate actively and fully in learning<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Seek Support<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; let adults know if and when you need support<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Be Present<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; focus on what you are doing, when you are doing it<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Student Behavior Issues<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While overall our kids\u2019 are doing great, we do have a few behavioral issues we need your help with.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unfortunately, a small group of students are engaging in negative behaviors in our restrooms.\u00a0 This is a huge concern for us because our restrooms should be a safe place for all students.\u00a0 We have increased supervision in and around our restrooms.\u00a0 Occasionally, we have to close a restroom due to damage caused by students but we still have plenty of restroom access.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our campus is a closed campus.\u00a0 This means that students are not allowed to leave at lunch (or any other time for that matter) during the day.\u00a0 The only exception to this is if they are signed out by a parent or guardian.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speaking of signing students out, we will be asking parents to come into the office to sign students out in most cases.\u00a0 Recently, some of our more creative teens have been having acquaintances (pretending to be a parent) call in to release students.\u00a0 Please understand that student safety is always our top priority.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>PTO Meeting<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please consider joining the DHS PTO!\u00a0 Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 8, at 7:00pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Please Check Out our Web Page <\/span><b>Tuesday, November 1 at 7:00 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for an informative evening.\u00a0 As I mentioned previously, we are fortunate to have Trevor Auldridge Reveles working in our community and he will be sharing his work with you.\u00a0 He is completing his PhD research on rural communities with high rates of upward mobility and so is working in Dixon, one of only two rural communities in California (and one of maybe 4,000 in the entire US) where young people find greater success as adults.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: are easily able to purchase drugs, just by finding strangers on Instagram?\u00a0 This happens in our community, just like other communities so please check in with your students often and let us know if you need help.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>College Advising on Wednesdays for All Students<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our counseling office is hosting College Wednesdays at lunch in the College and Career Center.\u00a0 All students are welcome to stop in and get their college and career questions answered.\u00a0 This is a great opportunity for our seniors to get help with finalizing applications, completing the FAFSA, making career decisions, etc.\u00a0 It is also a fantastic opportunity for our younger students who are exploring post-secondary opportunities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Resources for Students and Families<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our teachers are working very hard to meet your students\u2019 needs in class and out.\u00a0 But, there are many ways to help your student if they are struggling.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0We expect every student to use a common binder system AND complete their planner every hour, every day, at Dixon High School.\u00a0 Please take a look at both of these resources every evening to make sure your student is taking advantage of these tools that are used to help students stay focused and organized.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When you look at the planner, take a look to see how often your student is out of class.\u00a0 If they aren\u2019t in class, they can\u2019t learn.\u00a0 Teachers will be initialing the planner when students leave class each period.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encourage your student to go to the Learning Center in the library.\u00a0 They have tutoring and support every morning and afternoon.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reach out to staff if you need any suggestions or help.\u00a0 We REALLY want every student to be successful.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>ACT and SAT for 11th Graders<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have a college bound student, please encourage them to sit for the SAT\/ACT exams during their junior year.\u00a0 Even though our UC and CSU partners don\u2019t require the exams, there are many reasons to take them:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scores can be used to determine course eligibility in English and Mathematics at UC\u2019s and CSU\u2019s.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scores can opt students out of requirements such as CBEST assessments for graduate programs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many other colleges and universities still require the exams.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have any questions, please don\u2019t hesitate to reach out to our counselors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Seniors Only<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year, <\/span><b>every senior family<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is expected to complete the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/help\/fafsa\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">FAFSA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a financial document for all post-secondary institutions.\u00a0 If you would like some help our counseling office is hosting a <\/span><b>Workshop on Thursday, November 17, 2022 beginning at 5:30pm.\u00a0 We can help you with this!! <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0To participate in the workshop, parents will need to have a FAFSA log in already in place. <\/span><b>\u00a0Please join us on Tuesday, November 9, 2022 from 5:30-6:30 if you need any help.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>School Pictures<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For senior portraits, students go to <\/span><a
