class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dear Dixon High School Families,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We are right in the middle of our fall semester and it goes fast from here!\u00a0 Please make sure you have checked on your student\u2019s grades.\u00a0 Report cards were sent out last month and you can always check in Homelink.\u00a0 I think it is important to remember that students have time to improve grades but they also need to change their practices and behaviors.\u00a0 For example, are they completing their planner every period, every day?\u00a0 Are they missing assignments?\u00a0 Are they keeping an organized binder?\u00a0 Are they making use of our resources such as awesome teachers, willing to support at lunch or after school, the library, which is staffed and open every day, or the Learning Center?\u00a0 If you need support in supporting your student, please reach out to your student\u2019s teachers, counselor, or any other adult on campus.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Here are a couple of things to keep in mind this week:<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Technology Upgrades<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The DUSD Tech Department continues to work to support all students with Chromebooks and new devices finally arrived.\u00a0 We were able to provide new devices for all 11th graders and will begin providing new gear for other grades soon.\u00a0 With this said, we need your help with a few things:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please make sure your student takes care of their device.\u00a0 While we understand there is some wear and tear with regular use, damage like missing keys, dropped devices, etc should be reported immediately.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students must bring a fully charged device (and a charger) every day.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Parent Information Opportunity<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DUSD is hosting a community night about social media.\u00a0 The evening is hosted by the Organization for Social Media Safety and will be held in the Community Theater on campus from 6:00-7:30 pm on October 19.\u00a0 This is a great opportunity to get updated information about how to support our teens.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Resources for Students and Families<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our teachers are working very hard to meet your students\u2019 needs in class and out.\u00a0 But, there are many ways to help your student if they are struggling.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0We expect every student to use a common binder system AND complete their planner every hour, every day, at Dixon High School.\u00a0 Please take a look at both of these resources every evening to make sure your student is taking advantage of these tools that are used to help students stay focused and organized.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When you look at the planner, take a look to see how often your student is out of class.\u00a0 If they aren\u2019t in class, they can\u2019t learn.\u00a0 Teachers will be initialing the planner when students leave class each period.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encourage your student to go to the Learning Center in the library.\u00a0 They have tutoring and support every morning and afternoon.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reach out to staff if you need any suggestions or help.\u00a0 We REALLY want every student to be successful.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>ACT and SAT for 11th Graders<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have a college bound student, please encourage them to sit for the SAT\/ACT exams during their junior year.\u00a0 Even though our UC and CSU partners don\u2019t require the exams, there are many reasons to take them:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scores can be used to determine course eligibility in English and Mathematics at UC\u2019s and CSU\u2019s.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scores can opt students out of requirements such as CBEST assessments for graduate programs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many other colleges and universities still require the exams.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have any questions, please don\u2019t hesitate to reach out to our counselors.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>CSU and UC Presentations this Week<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please join our counseling staff this evening (CSU) and\/or tomorrow evening (UC) to get detailed information for parents and students.\u00a0 We are super excited about these opportunities and we will have presentations in both English and Spanish!\u00a0 Meet at the Community Theater for a 5:30 start of the hour long programs.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Seniors Only<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are the parent of a senior, you know that college application season can be really stressful.\u00a0 Please remind your student that their life journey is just beginning and that they will be okay!\u00a0 Also, encourage them to apply to many different schools before making a decision.\u00a0 Some things to consider\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do they want a big school or a small school?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do they want to live on campus or at home?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do they want a competitive school or something less competitive?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What do they want to study (we ALWAYS recommend they study what they want to learn)?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do they want to drive back and forth or fly back and forth?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Also, please remember that our staff knows lots about college<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are so many fun things to talk about!!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year, <\/span><b>every senior family<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is expected to complete the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/help\/fafsa\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">FAFSA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a financial document for all post-secondary institutions.\u00a0 If you would like some help our counseling office is hosting a <\/span><b>Workshop on November 17, 2022 beginning at 5:30pm.\u00a0 We can help you with this!!\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>School Pictures<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Make-up picture day is coming up on October 11th. All students can order school pictures online at: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mylifetouch.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mylifetouch.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 Images can be previewed there and you can order with your student ID#. \u00a0 We will schedule students that missed taking a picture in August.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For senior portraits, students go to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/prestigeportraits.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">prestigeportraits.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and enter their appointment code (sent to homes on a postcard or via email from Prestige Portraits) to find their appointment time. \u00a0 All seniors need to take a senior portrait with prestige\u00a0 for the yearbook.
