{"id":1229,"date":"2023-08-08T17:03:42","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T00:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dixonusd.org\/dhs\/?p=1229"},"modified":"2023-08-08T17:03:42","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T00:03:42","slug":"principals-rampage-v4-3-here-we-goclass-schedules-and-starting-classes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dixonusd.org\/dhs\/principals-rampage-v4-3-here-we-goclass-schedules-and-starting-classes\/","title":{"rendered":"Principal\u2019s RAMpage v4.3 \u201cHERE WE GO\u2026CLASS SCHEDULES AND STARTING CLASSES\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hello everybody!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For the sake of clarity and getting our awesome kids off to a great start to the school year, this RAMpage is dedicated to clarifying policies and procedures as we get over 1,000 teens settled into classrooms.\u00a0 As always, let us know if you have any other questions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>First Day of School, Student Schedules and Campus Map<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The first day of school is a short Wednesday and we are so excited to see our kids.\u00a0 They did great at orientation and are ready to go. Here are some things to keep in mind:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All students will have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch on campus at no cost.\u00a0 Students are also welcome to bring their own lunch.\u00a0 Students may not receive food from any delivery service.\u00a0 Like other schools, we have water bottle refill stations and encourage students to bring their own water bottles.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All students will enter campus on the West side, near the student parking lot, between the S and C buildings.\u00a0 No other gates will be open.\u00a0 They will also exit here at the end of the day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Campus Map: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1hBL2swuo8AGWp9GeZ-vSfJ_AEx25caNO\/view?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\" data-rich-links=\"{&quot;fple-t&quot;:&quot;DHS Campus MAP 2023.24 website map.pdf&quot;,&quot;fple-u&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1hBL2swuo8AGWp9GeZ-vSfJ_AEx25caNO\/view?usp=sharing&quot;,&quot;fple-mt&quot;:&quot;application\/pdf&quot;,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;first-party-link&quot;}\">DHS Campus MAP 2023.24 website map.pdf<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have your student take a picture of their schedule and the map for the first day so they have it on their phone for easy reference.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students should bring their School ID card to school every day.\u00a0 They use their card to check out their textbooks from the library and to get food in the cafeteria.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While we make every effort to have accurate schedules for all students, there are occasionally things that need to be fixed.\u00a0 <\/span><b>It is very important that students go to every class on their current schedule! \u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With over 1,000 students, we need to fix schedules in a prioritized manner.\u00a0 Please remind your student that<\/span><b> it may take several days to get their schedule fixed and all teachers are aware of this<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 We know it takes a bit to get things settled.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If your student schedule has a serious error, <\/span><b>please email your counselor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 Mrs. Becerra sees all students with last names beginning with A-La and Mr. Rodriguez sees students with last names beginning with Le-Z.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Maria Becerra (mbecerra@dixonusd.org)<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Ricardo Rodriguez (rrodriguez@dixonusd.org)<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Thank You to the DHS PTO!!<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our PTO is THE BEST!!\u00a0 They have helped welcome kids and are showering our staff with love\u2026and lots of goodies.\u00a0 Thank you!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please join the PTO if you get a chance.\u00a0 Their next meeting is Tuesday, August 15.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Communication<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I am committed to open, frequent communication with students and families, and I need you to do the same.\u00a0 High School life goes very, very fast, and our kids need all of us supporting them and cheering them on.\u00a0 With this in mind, here are some things to keep in mind:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students\u2019 lives are really complicated, especially our seniors.\u00a0 There will be student information in every RAMpage but it won\u2019t include everything for the entire year.\u00a0 Rather, it will include what they need to know and or do most immediately.\u00a0 You can imagine that trying to deal with senior year, college applications, career decisions, FAFSA, saying goodbye, playing your last high school athletic season, preparing to live away from home, etc can be overwhelming.\u00a0 Please work with me in helping our students be present in the moment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition to messaging, we use Facebook to communicate through three approved pages:\u00a0 the page titled \u201c<\/span><b>Dixon High School<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201dthe page titled \u201c<\/span><b>Dixon High School PTO<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d and a page titled \u201c<\/span><b>Dixon High School Athletics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We always, always, welcome your questions!\u00a0 Please call or email any time so we can answer your questions or help, especially if you are new to our school. \u00a0 I am available via email at <\/span><a href=\"mailto:smarquez@dixonusd.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">smarquez@dixonusd.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or by phone 707-693-6330, ext 7113, and I am happy to help or get you to the right person to help you.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>School Supplies<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All DHS students will be provided\u00a0 Chromebooks, binders and planners to be used in all classes, at school.\u00a0 You do not need to purchase these things.\u00a0 Students will only need loose-leaf binder paper,\u00a0 graph paper, pens and pencils, maybe a highlighter or two, and possibly some colored pencils. Of course, we can provide these things as well as needed.\u00a0 In addition, math students may need calculators but we have calculators students can check out.\u00a0 <\/span><b>Just so you are aware, I highly recommend you do not purchase any supplies (other than paper and some pens\/pencils) until you have heard from your student\u2019s teachers. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Attendance<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Attendance in high school is critical to student success.\u00a0 When students miss class, it not only affects their academic progress but it also affects students socio-emotional and mental health.\u00a0 High school moves fast and it is really hard for students when they miss.\u00a0 Please make sure your student attends every class, every day, on time and when your student has to miss class, please communicate with our Attendance Office.\u00a0 I will send more information about how to do this in the next few weeks.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>IMPORTANT<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: This year, most of our students will be starting school at the same time (8:30 am).\u00a0 This means traffic will be challenging!\u00a0 We have supervision on campus and places for kids to go as early as 7:30 am so please get here early, rather than late.\u00a0 If you have students at other sites, would it be possible to drop off your high school student first?
