supportive, equitable culture for all community members through our PBIS team.\u00a0 Through this work, we always refer back to our three common expectations:\u00a0 <\/span><b>Engage, Seek Support, and Be Present<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 Today, I invite you to join us in supporting kids so they will experience success on campus.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Engagement<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your students need to come to school every day, on time.\u00a0 Our classrooms are awesome.\u00a0 Kids engage and teachers teach up a storm with lessons rich with collaboration, inquiry, writing, reading, and dare I say, FUN!\u00a0 When your student misses class or comes in late, they do not have the same level of engagement.\u00a0 Also, it is really difficult for them socially when they feel they have \u201cmissed something.\u201d\u00a0 Help your students engage by supporting them in getting to school and attending every class, every day.\u00a0 If there is something going on that makes that difficult, please <\/span><b>seek support<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from your students\u2019 assistant principal or counselor so we can help.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We still see students that cannot engage fully in learning because they are not prepared for class.\u00a0 Make sure they bring school supplies, their binder, their planner, and a fully charged chromebook every single day.\u00a0 If they need help, <\/span><b>seek support<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from our office staff.\u00a0 They will help.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Be Present<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have a student in 8th-11th grade, join us for the DHS Course Expo tomorrow night from 6:00-7:30.\u00a0 We want you to experience our culture and programs first hand so your students can <\/span><b>engage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> fully in their course selection for next school year.\u00a0 You will meet our teachers, see what kids experience in classes, visit the DHS PTO table, and meet our counselors and administrators. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a situations, please <\/span><b>seek support<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from your child\u2019s assistant principal so they can either support your student directly or reach out to someone who can. \u00a0 Students sometimes have trouble<\/span><b> being present<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in their academic day when they have other stressors in their lives.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Seeking Support<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We ALWAYS want to hear from you so we can help your student.\u00a0 Did you know that between our three administrators, we have 86 years of experience with teenagers?\u00a0 Please do not hesitate to reach out for support.\u00a0 Also, to help your own student, consider the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encourage your student to attend teacher office hours and\/or teacher resources.\u00a0 These can be found in student planners.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encourage your student to visit the Learning Center, every morning and afternoon, in the DHS library for free tutoring. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1NJie1Q9tUFJO4lKUZLCVSIFDCdbbIxXY\/view?usp=share_link\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Learning Center hours<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encourage your student to study collaboratively with peers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Honor your student\u2019s study time at home.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We for 2023-2024<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All of our current 9th-11th graders (and current JKMS 8th graders) will engage in a scaffolded process of course selection for next school year.\u00a0 Here are some things to keep in mind:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students need to make informed decisions about their educational programs that will prepare them for their post-secondary goals.\u00a0 We will be providing information for students AND parents very soon.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students and families need to check emails frequently.\u00a0 This is how we communicate information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plan on attending the <\/span><b>Course Expo Evening<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> tomorrow January 25, from 6:00-7:30 pm.
