{"id":1071,"date":"2023-01-10T21:42:04","date_gmt":"2023-01-11T05:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dixonusd.org\/dhs\/?p=1071"},"modified":"2023-09-01T12:55:36","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T19:55:36","slug":"principals-rampage-v3-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dixonusd.org\/dhs\/principals-rampage-v3-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Principal&#8217;s RAMpage v3.19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dear Dixon High School Families,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A little principal\u2019s thought as we gear up for spring semester\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During winter break, I took some of our own advice and took time to \u201cbe present\u201d with my family and self. No emails.\u00a0 No work.\u00a0 Just some rest, cooking, lots of walking, and time with my people.\u00a0 It was almost difficult to do but so important to \u201cunplug\u201d from it all.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And then I went to supervise a basketball game at a neighboring high school (who, by the way, lost to our Rams).\u00a0 As soon as I entered the gym, I was happily greeted by our kids.\u00a0 It was nice to see them and it reaffirms I have the greatest job in the world.\u00a0 Your kids are really very special.\u00a0 It is so nice to be back on campus with students and staff as we continue to learn and grow.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I hope your families also enjoyed peace and time together before we launch into spring.\u00a0 This edition of the RAMpage is a little different. I want to take the opportunity to share what is generally going to happen this semester.\u00a0 Next week, I will have more important details<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Students Will Complete Course Requests for Next School Year<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All of our current 9th-11th graders (and current JKMS 8th graders) will be engage in a scaffolded process of course selection for next school year. <\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s very important that families read the RAMpage each week so you can stay on top of this process.\u00a0 Here are some things to keep in mind for now:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students need to make informed decisions about their educational programs that will prepare them for their post-secondary goals.\u00a0 We will be providing information for students AND parents very soon.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students and families need to check emails frequently.\u00a0 This is how we communicate information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plan on attending the Course Expo Evening on Wednesday, January 25, from 6:00-7:30 pm. Students and families learn about DHS programs and get to know staff.\u00a0 It is a really great evening!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>It is Time to Start Thinking About the Class of 2023!<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the bittersweet things about high school is celebrating our seniors.\u00a0 We simultaneously celebrate and say goodbye to this awesome class of young people.\u00a0 And, if you\u2019re a parent of a senior, prepare to bounce between these extremes over the next months. \u00a0 It is a wonderful, yet bumpy ride!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Here are some traditional senior celebrations and activities to be aware of.\u00a0 Remember, we look forward to this every year and can\u2019t wait to honor your students!<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In accordance with California Legislative Policy, <\/span><b>all seniors must complete a FAFSA to earn a diploma this year.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 You can start this at home but we will have more opportunities for support soon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In late February\/Early March, students will have the opportunity to apply for Community Scholarships.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our staff will be delivering a special surprise for your graduate\u2019s home\u2026as soon as it stops raining.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our athletic teams will continue to celebrate senior athletes at home contests.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Award Ceremonies and Senior Nights (beyond athletics) begin in May.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Paint the Town Green and other events will take place in May as well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Graduation for the Class of 2023 is on Saturday, June 3, at 9:00 am in the stadium.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Grades and Student Supports<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You should be receiving your fall semester report card and transcripts this weekend.\u00a0 If you have any questions about your student\u2019s progress, please reach out to their teachers and\/or counselor.\u00a0 We are here to help.\u00a0 Please remember that students need to earn credits toward a diploma.\u00a0 If they do not pass classes, they do not earn credits.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encourage your student to attend teacher office hours and\/or teacher resources.\u00a0 These can be found in student planners.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encourage your student to visit the Learning Center, every morning and afternoon, in the DHS library for free tutoring.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a Independent Study (STIS).\u00a0 Here is what you should know\u2026<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">STIS is only an option for students missing 3-14 school days.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">STIS must be pre-approved by an assistant principal at least<\/span><b> 10 working days prior<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to the absence.\u00a0 Student\u2019s\/families\u2019 unofficial agreements with teachers or staff will not be recognized for attendance purposes.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">STIS is not an option for students with less than a 2.0 GPA or a student who has an incomplete STIS in the past.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">STIS work must be turned in the day they are scheduled to return.\u00a0 It will not be accepted late for any reason.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is very important that students attend school every period, every day! \u00a0 That said, we know your student may need to miss.\u00a0 When they are out, please remember to communicate with us and bring in those doctor and dentist notes. \u00a0 We are happy to work with you but if we Wednesdays at lunch in the College and Career Center.\u00a0 All students are welcome to stop in and get their college and career questions answered.\u00a0 This is a great opportunity for our seniors to get help with finalizing applications, completing the FAFSA, making career decisions, etc.\u00a0 It is also a fantastic opportunity for our younger students who are exploring post-secondary
